Maintaining Your Chain – A Vital Maintenance in Motocross

Many motocross riders, especially novice riders, don’t think much of the maintenance of their chain.  The chain is one of the most important parts on the bike that needs to routine maintenance.  Now, in case you a newbie and are unaware of the vital pieces of maintenance to keep your motocross bike running, you should know that your chain is one of the most important pieces of maintenance.  If you do not properly maintain the upkeep of your chain on a frequent basis, your chain could snap or eventually disintegrate.

Your motocross chain needs to be checked prior to getting on your bike whether for practice or for a race.  The maintenance of your motocross chain involves adjusting, tightening, cleaning, and ensuring that the sprockets, front and rear both, are in top condition.  However, many riders fail to maintain this important information and do not follow the guidelines that are written on in the manufacturer’s handbook.

By neglecting the chain maintenance of your bike, you are not only hurting yourself and the green in your wallet, but you are hurting your bike as well.  In order to race and practice properly, your chain needs to be in top-notch condition.

So, let’s take a look at a few essential tips that will help you get through the day of your motocross chain maintenance.

By all means you should make sure that your chain is cleaned after each ride to ensure that it’s kept in top notch condition.  In my opinion, the best way to clean your chain is by actually removing it from the bike itself.  This allows you to ensure that you reach every inch of the chain for effective cleaning.  I also recommend purchasing a special brush that helps you make certain that you get in between each ridge, which will result in efficient cleaning.

One important tip during the cleaning of your chain is to never ever let the chain dry on its own as your chain will very likely rust and won’t be worth a penny and definitely won’t help you win the upcoming race.

When adjusting your chain, you want to make sure you do it correctly.  By not adjusting the chain in a correct manner, you may find that it will result in excessive wear and tear of the chain as well as the front and rear sprockets.  You may also notice that you won’t receive consistent power.

The above are just a few tips in helping maintain the maintenance on your bike chain.  Don’t let your bike go to waste – do the proper chain maintenance to keep it in tip top shape! Visit Motocross Online for more great tips for today’s racers.

Motocross Modifications For Safety

Pro Custom Suzuki Race BikeMotocross racing bikes have special features, speed and weight requirements that require the bikes to be customized depending on the uses of the rider who is riding it. To the laymen, motocross racing is a form of all terrain biking or like a form of cross country motorcycle racing, hence the strange name. Racing is done usually in enclosed circuits, in public places however. At certain times motocross riders also involves freestyle jumping and other risky performances. Therefore to optimize safety measures modification or customization of bikes is an absolutely necessary thing if you want to be your best.

Since it involves jumping and flipping and other forms of both gravity and death defying stunts, the bikes need to be of a significantly lighter weight. This improves bike control and therefore, performance.  Thus racers use motocross aftermarket parts on their bikes to lower the overall weight of their bikes.

Another form of modification is to buy foot pegs that are taller then stock and to cut down on the seat foam by shaving it off for the shorter riders. Doing this ensures that the bikers get a increased flexibility of movement and also a better grip on the seat. Being dislodged in the middle of a race or a stunt can prove fatal for a racer. Steering stabilizers are also used to make sure that the front tire keeps on moving straight at high speeds, especially at a time when the rider is performing a stunt and the latter requires the riders to let go of the handlebars. Some racers find it easier to shorten the legs around the bars if they shorten the length of the handlebars themselves.

Other modifications include moving away the brakes and the clutch cables away from the bars, or rather modifying their direction to avoid any kind of entanglement that might occur. A biker can get his legs entangled on the bike. Motocross freestylers also choose to have hand guards on their handlebars to perform back flipping stunts as you can see Travis Pastrana has used them for this reason.
Thus there are varied ways in which the features of a bike are fine tuned to be in tandem with the biker’s rhythm and style. It is very important that a biker is completely at ease on his bike, because during times of racing and stunting it becomes an extension of his body. That is when man and machine finally unite as one.

Motocross Freestyle: Living on the Edge

FMX Travis PastranaFreestyle motocross is also know as FMX and is one of the many death defying, and probably gravity defying stunts that daredevil bikers perform, in their need for thrills and speed rushes. Now, you might ask, that what motocross is in the first place. It is a form of sport which involves biking on all kinds of terrain. The racing is held within closed circuits. As is obvious, the name motocross is derived from the two words Motorcycle and Cross Country. Thus freestyle motocross means jumping and stunting in order to score points from the panel of judges.

There are two kinds of events involved in freestyle motocross. One is, Big Air, also known as Best Trick. The other event is Freestyle Motocross, which is the older of the two. In the former stunt the rider is allowed three jumps into the air, as high as 60 feet. The highest jump gets the top score. The latter trick, involves the riders performing two routines. The duration of these routines range from 90 seconds to 14 minutes. Within the specified time the riders have to perform jumps of varying angles and heights. The judges mark them accordingly; by analyzing features like the difficulty level of the jumps executed, the height, and so on. The different heights and angles of the jumps are usually performed over one to two acres of land. Again, like in the previous trick, the participants are marked on a 100 point score line.

There are many prominent Freestyle Motocross events that are held around the world. Some of these prominent ones include Red Bull X-Fighters, NIGHT of the JUMPs, the X-Games, Gravity Games, Big-X, and Moto-X Freestyle National Championship and so on. The pioneering freestyle motocross event is the Dew Action Sports Tour Freeriding. The last event has no fixed organizational structure, as is usually the case with any freestyling event whatsoever. It is always held in public places, for everyone to see. Famous freestyle locations include Ocotillo and Glamis Dunes in California, Beaumont, Texas and Cainville in Utah.

This is an extremely risky sport and physical strength and riding capabilities are not the only qualities that can get a rider through. One needs intense concentration and mental composure to be a freerider and ace all these freestyle events. Check out this site for freestyle motocross safety equipment and custom bike parts. Used Motocross Bike Guide

images1If you want to buy a motocross bike, then a great way to start the process is to go to your local motocross track to check out the different brands that are available. Most motorcycle dealerships should be able to give you the directions or locations to the nearest mx track were you live. It is a good idea to do some research about motocross before you make the investment, in order to be fully informed about what is available. This is an ideal strategy to get a feel for the racing atmosphere. Here are a few points to consider when contemplating purchasing your motocross bike.

There are two important features to consider when buying, such as what size do you need and does it come with a riders off road training course? Remember to take into consideration the age and rider training of the primary operating the bike. There are dirt bikes especially designed for varying degrees of experience; from beginner bikes for kids under age ten, to intermediate bikes for pre-teens, to full-sized for the experienced teen and adult.

Motocross riding can be dangerous so safety equipment is needed to prevent injuries. Get the best gear which will provide increased safety for the rider. Most racing dirtbikes have limited speeds; usually less than 50 mph.

Now is the time to decide whether you want to buy a new or used motocross bike. There are some important things to remember when buying used. Get to know the seller a bit and ask why he or she is selling the bike and how long have they owned it. You definitely do not want to purchase a worn out chassis or engine motocross parts for the engine are very expensive. Take your time and decide how much you are willing to spend on the bike. You can expect to spend $800 to $1500 or more.

If you want to purchase new, then there are other expenses to consider. If you buy new, it will increase the total cost. When shopping, you need to determine the brand you prefer. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki make most of the best motocross bikes KTM offers a wide range of models also. A new race bike can cost from $1500 to $7500 or more depending on the brand and year.
